The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has approved the addition of the Faculty of Law at the University of Management and Technology (UMT). This was communicated to UMT by PHEC through letter No. PHEC(Acc)4-12/2015 dated 14 March 2017.
The UMT School of Law and Policy (SLP) was set up, in 2011, under Section 4(a) of the University and Management and Technology Act, 2004. According to this provision, UMT can provide instruction and training in “(i) Management Sciences, Information Technology, Educational Management and Technology, Media and Communication, Commerce, Economics, Social Sciences and Arts, Languages and Literature; and (ii) such other branches of learning as the Board may determine with the approval of the Patron given on the recommendation of a committee constituted by the Education Department.” In other words, up till 14 March 2017, SLP had been working under the Faculty of Social Sciences. Now, SLP is working under the Faculty of Law.
