Hiba Akbar has joined UMT School of Law and Policy as a lecturer. She has a B.A./LL.B. from Lahore University of Management Sciencesand an LL.M. from Columbia Law School, which she attended as a Fulbright Scholar. At Columbia, she was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and received Parker Certificate for Achievement in International and Comparative Law. She was also part of the prestigious Gender & Sexuality Law Clinic, working with a New York-based advocacy group to promote reproductive justice for women.
Prior to joining SLP, she worked at Axis Law Chambers, a Pakistani corporate and commercial law firm. She has also helped carry out a study on existing impediments to access to justice for rape survivors in Pakistan for the National Commission on Status of Women, Government of Pakistan.
Her interest lies in studying law in context. For this, she utilizes the lenses of gender, class, and labor rights.
