On 23 August 2016, Michael Marelus, Gila Marelus, and Levi Marelus were invited by Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad [Founding Director and Associate Professor, SLP] to have an interactive discussion with SLP’s students about Judaism. Hailing from the orthodox Jewish community in Antwerp, the three siblings gave a detailed account of Jewish beliefs and practices. This was followed by a frank discussion between the siblings and the students. Dries Cools was also present and shared his views on religion and interfaith harmony. For SLP’s students, it was a great learning opportunity and they tremendously enjoyed it.
Afterwards, SLP's delegation was invited to a kosher dinner by the siblings. Prof. Asad also invited Dries Cools and his partner to the event.
It was a unique experience for SLP's students to taste Yiddish cuisine and to have frank conversation with orthodox Jews in a casual atmosphere, which they greatly appreciated.
SLP's delegation was in Antwerp to attend a summer program, focusing on European Financial Regulation, offered by Faculty of Law, University of Antwerp, Belgium.
