Meeting with the advocate general of the Punjab

On 13 December 2012, a delegation from Center for Law and Policy called upon Ashtar Ausaf Ali [Advocate General of the Punjab] at Advocate General's Office, Lahore. The delegation comprised Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad [Founder and Director, Center for Law and Policy], Mark Tushnet [William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law, Harvard Law School], and Daniel Austin [Associate Professor of Law, Northeastern University School of Law].

Mr. Ali discussed the role of the Advocate General with the two foreign professors and explained to them the various steps taken by him in order to improve the performance of his office.Among other things, he gave a detailed account of how various provincial statutes are now available online for lawyers and general public.He also highlighted various measures adopted by Government of the Punjab regarding education, health, and infrastructure development.

Mr. Ali showed particular interest in Northeastern University School of Law's proposed program, named "Law Bridge," for young lawyers. He discussed with Professor Austin the possibility of setting up something similar in the Punjab.

Mr. Ali praised Professor Asad for the innovative work done by the Center and, most importantly, attracting distinguished foreign academics to Pakistan at a time when the country is going through a rough phase.
