On 16 April 2018, Hiba Akbar [Lecturer, SLP] screened the award-winning documentary, 13th, for students of her course on the U.S. constitution, which is offered to LL.B. [Part-II] candidates. The documentary screening was followed by a discussion, lead by Ms. Akbar, on race relations, legislation, and courts’ struggle to take account of the changing nature of racism in the U.S., and how courts and legislation became tools for suppression of African-Americans in the U.S. She pointed out the close interplay between politics and law throughout the U.S. history with respect of African-Americans, and what lessons Pakistanis can learn from the African-American experience.
