On 13 December 2016, A Girl in the River was screened at UMT School of Law and Policy [SLP] by United Nations Information Center [UNIC]. The idea was to show how various human rights issues are raised and addresses through cinematography.
The director of UNIC in Pakistan, Vittorio Cammarota, attended the event. Before the screening, he explained various UN initiatives regarding human rights, introduced UNIC, and how UNIC and educational institutions can collaborate.
After the screening, the audience discussed the issue of honour killings in Pakistan, relevant legal provisions, and proposals for improvement.
