On 21 January 2012, Center for Law and Policy (CLP) and a group of Harvard alumni organized a panel discussion on intellectual property issues in Pakistan and the role of Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO). The panelists were Sajjad Ahmad [Director General, IPO] and Muhammad Khurram [LL.M. (Harvard); Director Legal, IPO]. The discussion was moderated by Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad [LL.M. (Harvard); Advocate, High Court; Director, CLP].
The event started with a detailed presentation by Mr. Khurram on the concept of intellectual property and the arguments for and against the protection of intellectual property rights. Afterwards, Mr. Ahmad explained the constitution and role of IPO and the laws related to intellectual property issues. He also talked about the numerous challenges and difficulties faced by IPO. This was followed by an hour long Q&A session.
The audience comprised lawyers, law professors and students, business faculty and students, and government officials.
In the end, Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad [Rector, UMT] presented souvenirs to the panelists.
