08 January 2018, the rector of UMT, Dr. Muhammad Aslam (S.I.), hosted SLP’s fulltime faculty and some outstanding students to coffee in order to appreciate the successful co-organization of an international conference, titled “Islamic Finance: Between Religious Norms and Legal Practice,” by SLP at KU Leuven, Belgium, on 07 December 2017.No other Pakistani law school holds the distinction of co-organizing an international conference in Europe; let alone, at one of its ancient and prestigious universities.
The founding director of SLP, Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad, started the conversation by elaborating upon the history and scope of SLP’s relations with law faculties in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic, while laying special emphasis on KU Leuven and Antwerp; and described the recent contacts made with law faculties in Italy and France. He also acknowledged his European friends, Dr.Bastiaan van Zelst, Dr. Felix Hartmann, Dr.PetrKoblovsky, and Dries Cools, for facilitating SLP’s academic collaborations in Europe.
SLP’s students, RanaTauseef Sami and Abrar Ali, shared their experiences in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, and pointed out various academic and cultural similarities and differences that they noticed between Pakistan and these European countries.They also thanked SLP for providing such valuable opportunities to its students on a regular basis.
Dr.Aslam shared his experiences in Germany while he was a student and he narrated different instances of his academic and cultural experiences in Europe. He stressed that Pakistani academics should strive to provide such valuable opportunities to their students.He acknowledged and praised Prof.Asad’s relentless efforts that have culminated into strong and mutually beneficial relations with some of the top law faculties in Europeand that have established SLP as the most international law school in Pakistan. Dr.Aslam assured Prof.Asad and SLP of his full support for such initiatives in future as well.
