The purpose of this talk is to educate artists and lawyers about intellectual property issues specific to the art industry and how these issues can be better handled through a collective management organization (CMO).
In Pakistan, a number of activities were undertaken in the past to promote the establishment of a CMO. Due to the lack of credible private sector partners, little tangible progress resulted from these efforts. However, there is a continuing interest in this area. For instance, a CMO has recently been established. More initiatives are required to ensure that Pakistani artists are properly protected from IP rights infringements.
