On 26 February 2015, as part of the on-going collaboration between UMT School of Law and Policy (SLP) and the faculty of law at University of Antwerp (UA), Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad [Founding Director and Associate Professor, SLP] gave a talk, titled “Islamic Law: Pakistani Perspectives,” at UA. The talk was hosted by Dr.WouterVandenhole [Professor, Faculty of Law, UA] and Dr.Koen De Feyter [Professor, Faculty of Law, UA].
Professor Asad started by explaining the origin, nature, and scope of Islamic law. Afterwards, he discussed the significance of Islamic law in Pakistan--- from the constitution to the various criminal and family laws. Also, he expounded how Pakistani courts interpret and utilize Islamic law while deciding various issues.
