On 18 May 2013, Center of Law and Policy hosted a talk on negotiation skills and international commercial arbitration. The speaker was Maria Rafique [LL.M. (Cornell); Advocate, High Court] who is currently working in Abu Dhabi with one of the state-owned oil and gas companies. The participants included law professors, legal practitioners, and graduate students at UMT School of Law and Policy.
Ms. Rafique started by explaining the concept of negotiation, its types, and skills that a person should have in order to successfully negotiate. Afterwards, she explained the concept and dynamics of international commercial arbitration. Finally, she focused on the relationship between negotiation skills and international commercial arbitration proceedings. She used different real-life examples and personal experiences in order to further clarify her arguments. The talk was followed by a Q&A session.
In the end, Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad [LL.M. (Harvard); Advocate, High Court; Founder and Director, Center for Law and Policy] thanked Ms. Rafique for taking time out of her busy schedule to share her expertise with the participants.
