The School of Law and Policy (SLP), University of Management and Technology (UMT), organized an insightful session titled “Understanding Dower (Mahr) in Islamic Law: Rights, Obligations, and Implications” on November 5, 2025.
The session aimed to explore the legal and spiritual dimensions of Mahr and its significance in safeguarding marital rights within Islamic jurisprudence.
Ms. Hina Shahid, Advocate High Court and LLM, DCLP (Punjab University), served as the guest speaker. She shared her expert perspective on the multifaceted concept of dower, highlighting its role as both a financial and moral obligation in Islamic law.
The event provided students and participants with a deeper understanding of Islamic family law and encouraged meaningful dialogue on contemporary legal interpretations of marital rights
