On 13 December 2012, a delegation from Center for Law and Policy visited Punjab Judicial Academy, Lahore. The delegation comprised Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad [Founder and Director, Center for Law and Policy], Mark Tushnet [William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law, Harvard Law School], and Daniel Austin [Associate Professor of Law, Northeastern University School of Law].
Justice (r) Tanveer Ahmed Khan [Former Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan; Director General, Punjab Judicial Academy] gave them a detailed description of the judicial system in Pakistan and explained the role of Punjab Judicial Academy in training judicial officers for the province. He also talked about freedom of religion and rights of religious minorities as guaranteed in the Quran and the Constitution of Pakistan.
Afterwards, Justice Khan introduced the delegation to the under-training judges and prosecutors at the Academy. The trainees engaged the foreign professors in a frank discussion that covered different constitutional and political developments in the United States and Pakistan.
Justice Khan thanked Professor Asad for arranging the visit and hoped that this would mark the beginning of a long lasting relationship between the Academy and the Center.
